This was produced by Conway Savage (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) who was an early supporter of hers. The band recorded this at the ABC studios at Southbank and had a string quartet consisting of Robin Casinader, Jen Anderson, Biddy Connor and Philip McCloud.  The arrangement was written by Robin Casinader who has played in seminal St Kilda bands such as The Wreckery and Plays with Marionettes.  “Never Coming Down” won the Rhythm’s readers poll 1993. The band played a number of shows and some supports including Paul Kelly, Chris Wilson, The Coral Snakes and Robert Forster across a number of venues.  They played at St Kilda venues including the The Espy, The Gershwin Room, Prince of Wales Hotel and The Palace. Genevieve would be best known for being the bass player in The Wet Ones.  Kelly Brimacombe was the lead singer of The Wet Ones and would later marry our guitarist from Acuff’s Rose (Martin Lewis).

  • The Dames:  2007- 2014 - A three piece (originally) With Clare Moore (Drums and Vocals), Rosie Westbrook (Bass) and Kaye Louise on Keyboards and Vocals. Clare and Kaye formed The Dames as a way of showcasing their songwriting. Half the songs were Clare's and half were Kaye Louise's and they both sang lead vocals on their own songs. "My history with St Kilda starts in 1982-1985 with Battle Happy; we played a number of gigs including in St Kilda.  I was asked to join and play keyboards by John Phillips (later Not Drowning, Waving). We supported bands such as The Johnnys, I’m Talking and Pel Mel and also did our own shows. We also played a Fashion Parade at the Seaview Ballroom. This was in 1982 or 1983 and from memory may have been in conjunction with the Fashion Design Council. This was choreographed by Tania Lacey who later went on to choreograph and dance in Kyle Minogue’s “Locomotion" and we had outfits made for us…I wore a purple cape and a hat! I wish I had photos. The designer may have been Kara Baker but I’m not sure.

Battle Happy also supported Models in Shepparton (1984) and we stayed overnight. Our manager (Melissa) drove us up in a van."

"I just remember how much fun playing at St Kilda venues was and how much it opened up my world. I also really like that it was my ability to play piano and sing that helped expose me to so many different experiences. Not to mention unusual and talented characters whom I would normally not have met!  I’m still playing and currently I play organ in JJ McCann Transmission. I played at The St.Kilda Bowling Club last week on a bill with Los Chicos (Spain) Human Toys (France) and Private Function and this week we are back there again supporting The Sacred Cowboys. I also played piano as part of the band launching  Rosie Westbrook’s album Always The Sea at George Lane in St Kilda (February 2023).

Great female musicians from Melbourne who have influenced me and that I admire include Clare Moore, Rosie Westbrook, Penny Ikinger, Barb Waters, Lisa Miller, Lisa Wood and Tanya -Lee Davies. All quite different and with unique skills but so talented."
